Entry 1- 3/14/07

1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?
I have done many different research projects at school including the ones we have done this year in this class. This year we did the labyrinth research project, but last year I had to do many other projects. My final copy of my research for a specific project was extremely thick and it took me quite a while to find all of the information I needed for the project. We also did a biography board in sixth grade that required a lot of research.
2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
To me, research is finding information on your specified topic that wil help you support your statement or opinion.
3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
The biography board was a great success for me. I liked researching about my person's life and accomplishments. It also helped me realize that research was necessary in writing an essay.

Teacher Response March 15
Good response. Your grade is 10/10.

I thought that the graphic organizer was a good way to put my thoughts together. It helped me to decide what topics I wanted to do and what I was really interested in. It was a great way to brainstorm. I also thought that it was very frustrating, though, because my laptop was incredibly slow.

Entry 3- 3/15/07

I chose to research about the history of Ancient Greece. I want to find out more about that time in history and especially about Alexander the Great. Many things that were created in that time, are still used today. I would also like to know more about the wars that went on during that time. At first, I wanted to research about Alexander the Great, but I have decided to broaden my topic and include the entire history of Ancient Greece because I think it will make for a better fat question.

Teacher Response March 16
Your grade is 20/20.

1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?

The note taking helped me to decide that ancient Greece was really too broad of a topic so I decided to do Alexander the Great. It helped me decide what I was really interested in about Alexander the Great. I thought that it was easy to create a fat question from my idea because I knew what I wanted to know about his life.

Teacher Response March 20 - Good topic. 20/20.

Entry 6- 3/20/07
1. What have I learned today?
I have learned a little bit about Alexander's life, his heroes, and the beginnings of his quest.
2. What problems have I had?
Today, I didn't really have any major problems probably because we were in the computer lab and not using the incredibly slow laptops.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I think that as long as we are in the computer lab, i won't be as frustrated because I won't have to deal with the laptops. They are so slow!
4. What will I do next?
Next, I think that I'm going to finish the article that I was working on and try to find another one that has more to do with his quest throughout the land he conquered.

Teacher Response March 21 - I find the laptops frustrating, too. 10/10.

Entry 7- 3/21/07

1. What have I learned today?
Today I learned a little bit about how Alexander conquered all othat land. I also learned that his troops basically refused not to go any farther. He is also considered a great military leader and is often compared to lieaders in present time. I also learned about some of the hardships he faced on his journey, like the sickness in one of the deserts.
2. What problems have I had?
I didn't really have any probelms toady. Infact I was very pleased with NoodleBib because it made my website that I put in there yesterday a link. That helped because I didn't have to try to retrace my steps. The only negative thing about NoodleBib is that whenever you click on direct quotation while trying to paraphrase, it starts at the beginning of your article instead of where you left off. Then, when you're trying to enter in the information you've found into the paraphrase box, it starts at the beginning, too, so you have to scroll down every time you go back and forth.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I figured out that it was easier for me to just pull up the place in the actual article and never use the direct quotation box. That way I could easily paraphrase and not forget what I wanted to add.
4. What will I do next?
Next, I'm going to try to find a book source. I'm hoping that it wiil have information about Alexander's lifestyle, his effects on history, or his battle strategy/road of conquest.

Teacher Response March 22 - Good job! 10/10.

Entry 8- 3/22/07

1. What have I learned today?
Today, I learned more about Alexander's youth and childhood. I also hit a good site about his conquest.
2. What problems have I had?
The only thing that happened was that NoodleBib closed on me so I had to start the entire notecard over, but it was a no big deal.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
Hopefully I won't have that problem again tomorrow because I'm going to be using a book source.
4. What will I do next?
Tomorrow, I am going to find a book source since it's our last day in the library. I was supposed to do that today, but I decided to find my last inernet sources so I could really focus on a book.
